Ampere is a useful app that allows you to monitor the speed at which your battery is charging or discharging. It acts as a detective, helping you determine the most effective charger and USB cable combination for your device. While it may not provide exact milliamp measurements, it offers a general idea of how various chargers and cables work with your phone. The current can vary based on factors such as the charger, cable, phone model, running apps, screen brightness, and whether WiFi or GPS are enabled.

The app monitors the flow of energy in and out of your battery. When your phone is not connected to a charger, it displays the amount of power being used (shown as a negative number). However, when you plug in a charger, the app indicates how much power the charger is supplying to keep your phone operational and charge up your battery. The displayed current is an average of 50 readings, with the top and bottom 10 values excluded. At times, the displayed current may fluctuate, be inaccurate, or even read as zero due to inconsistencies in Android's readings.

Certain Samsung devices may not accurately display charging values, instead showing the maximum charging current possible with the USB cable and charger being used. This is due to a firmware issue. While Ampere may not be completely precise, it can still be useful in determining the most effective charger and USB cable combination for your device.

This app is only compatible with phones and ROMS that have the 'Old measurement method' enabled and the correct 'Measurement interface' selected. Compatible devices include HTC One M7/M8 and LG G3, but there are reports of compatibility issues with devices such as Galaxy Grand Prime, Galaxy Note2, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Tab4 7.0, HTC Desire 510, HTC One S (ville), X (endeavoru), XL (evita), and HTC Sensation 4G.
